Case Study: UXO Survey, Sydney 2019
EGS was contracted by OPEC/Lendlease to undertake the Maritime survey and UXO Investigations support the Garden Island wharves’ development project.
The Stage One Garden Island (East) Critical Infrastructure Recovery Project was initiated by the Commonwealth Department of Defence to address the identified berthing capacity and vessel maintenance constraints. The aim of Stage One is to provide a fully functioning and future proofed wharf at the northern end of Garden Island (East) through a two phase demolition of the existing wharf structures and the construction of a new facility that will meet the Garden Island berthing and maintenance requirements for the forecast growth of current and future-planned vessels.
A MBES and SSS scouting survey was conducted in the UXO survey areas, prior to the UXO survey. The purpose of the scouting survey was to identify any obstacles on the seabed which may have caused potential hazard for the UXO marine gradiometer towed at depth during the UXO survey. The UXO marine gradiometer survey was also conducted on the 05 April 2019.
